Bologna is a city of about 500,000 people half way between Venice and Florence in the Italian provence of Emilia-Romagna. Bologna is the birthplace of tortellini, boast a highly educated citizenship and is a stone’s throw from Ferrari, Maserati, Ducati and Lamborghini. The city is widely considered the culinary capital of Italy but is also historically the cradle of Italian Communism. Despite gorgeous cathedrals and religous-based artwork that seem to be on every corner, less than 1% of Bolognese believe Jesus is the way to heaven.
The University of Bologna
At the heart of Bologna lies the University, one of the most renown centers of higher learning in Europe. Founded in 1080 A.D., the University is home to over 90,000 students that come from all over the world seeking knowledge. The University of Bologna boast such alumnus as Dante Alighieri, Petrarch and Copernicus, yet there is not one evangelical ministry on campus. God has led us to the University of Bologna to begin a campus ministry. It is our vision to see a revival on this campus and to watch the students that come from all over Italy seeking knowledge take the love of Christ back with them as they start their careers and families.
We were both born in Middle Tennessee and have spent the vast majority of our lives there. We met while in college and were married on June 14, 1997. Our first child, Ruby, was born on March 2nd, 2008 and has quickly proven to be the best baby ever. Ever.
After graduating from David Lipscomb University, Nicole went on to obtain her Master’s Degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University and has been practicing as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in the Nashville area. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Belmont and later graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law. Shortly after law school I began practicing with a law firm in downtown Nashville.
It was in the midst of these careers that God began to give us a sense of His grand pan for our lives. In the summer of 2006, God placed a burden on our hearts for the people of Italy, which we thought odd having never been there before. After months of prayer, God confirmed His desire for us to go to Italy and teach the people what it means to have a relationship with a living Savior. That call has been affirmed time and time again during our journey and we can not wait to see what God has in store for us through His ministry.
How You Can Pray: As we walk this path, our biggest need is for prayer. We can not overemphasize the necessity of prayer warriors for our ministry and the people of Italy that will hear God’s message through us.
