Living Hope | Cape Town, South Africa

Founded in 1999, Living Hope ministers to thousands of children and adults each week in seven ministry locations throughout the Southern Cape Peninsula. It provides palliative care, counseling, prevention education, homeless ministry, and economic empowerment opportunities for those suffering with HIV/AIDS, their families and their communities.

Living Hope was started by Pastor John Thomas, who has become a key African spokesperson in the global church’s response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic that has claimed the lives of millions of people over the last 25 years. The White House, Government of South Africa, United Nations, and World Vision have all recognized Pastor Thomas for Living Hope’s holistic and comprehensive ministry.

This ministry has been supported through our Hope for the World Missions Offering since 2005. Brentwood Baptist provided a special gift of $1 million to complete Living Hope’s main campus, including a chapel and prevention/education building. Brentwood Baptist is Living Hope’s largest donor. Over 150 of our members have served at Living Hope short term. Currently, Brentwood Baptist members Mike and Pam Talley and Danielle Schneider are serving full-time in Cape Town.
