Partnering with Shalom Baptist Church-the largest Baptist church in Guatemala-the Shalom Foundation provides comprehensive medical, educational, nutritional and housing services to the poor as a main part of the church's evangelism and discipleship strategy.  Founded in the early 1990s by Brentwood Baptist Church member Steve Moore, dozens of BBC members have served with Shalom in Guatemala.  In 2004, BBC member Jacqueline Swartz went to Guatemala on her first mission trip experience. She returned, quit her job at LifeWay and became Shalom's first full-time employee.  In 2005, Vanderbilt Children's Hospital joined forces with Shalom to address the health care needs of Guatemala's estimated seven million children-in February, Shalom organized a group of Vanderbilt nurses and doctors to travel to Guatemala where they performed over 30 pediatric surgeries.
